IHEANACHO GETS ASSIST AS MANCHESTER CITY GRIND STOKE CITY

Though a late substitute against the Potters on
Saturday, the rookie had a hand in Nolito’s first strike
as the Citizens secured vital away points
Kelechi Iheanacho’s display against Stoke City
suggests he could be given more playing time under
Pep Guardiola as the season progresses.
After missing Tuesday’s Champions League game
against Steaua Bucuresti following his second half
appearance for the Citizens against Sunderland in
the English Premier League opener, many had
thought the Nigerian could be a fringe player under
Guardiola.
But a return to form by providing his first assist of
2016-17 season as City silenced Stoke City 4-1 is a
pointer that he could compete for a starters’ shirt in
the attacking setup that parades the likes of Sergio
Aguero, Wilfried Bony, Leroy Sane and Nolito.
With Iheanacho handed a new deal which puts him at
the Etihad Stadium until 2021, it would be an
opportunity for him to flourish and sharpen his skills
under the Spaniard who believes in his potentials.
“Kelechi is a natural goalscorer,” Guardiola said. “I
knew about him before, but I’ve been really
impressed with him since I arrived.
"I like his personality, his attitude, his ability – we
hope to help him reach the highest level and to
realise his full potential.”
The Nigerian would hope to feature for the Citizens
when they welcome Steaua Bucuresti in the
Champions League play-off on Wednesday as he
hopes to improve on his 14 goal tally last season.
