A group, Ekiti Concerned Youths, has accused former governor of Ekiti State and minister of solid minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of plotting to frustrate confirmation of ambassadorial nominee, Lawrence Ayodeji, after an alleged attempt by him to get his wife’s name forwarded to the senate failed.
Lawrence Ayodeji is one of the 46 ambassadorial nominees President Buhari forwarded their names to the senate last week for confirmation. The immediate past Nigerian ambassador to Greece, Ayodeji hails from Ekiti State.
In a statement signed by the President of Ekiti Concerned Youths, Segun Fatigun, the group said it had observed a subterranean move by Dr. Fayemi to ensure that Ayodeji is not screen by the senate.
The statement reads in part: “It has been discovered that the minister of solid minerals and former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, recommended three names to the presidency for am bassadorial appointment. They are: Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, Prof. Modupe Adelabu and Sen. Olubunmi Adetunmbi in that order.
“It was revealed that the presidency expressed surprise that he could have recommended his wife, when investigation on why a particular name was not included was conducted, it was discovered that the minister did not carry anyone along, not even the deputy national chairman of the party (South), Engr. Segun Oni.”
“Security operatives are now close marking the office of the minister where a meeting was held yesterday where it was decided that a petition would be written with phony signatures in order to disallow the senate from screening the nominee.”
