This is why Nollywood actors run out of money and turn poor – Queen Nwokoye
Nollywood actress Queen Nwokoye said trying to live up to people’s expectation is the reason why Nollywood actors/actresses run out of money.
Speaking with BroadwayAfrica TV, she said:
“I don’t think it is because they are being extravagant, how many people are to begin with? The truth of the matter is a lot of people are known faces but they are not actually making the type of money people think they make.
Then again, it is an individual thing, it is either you are here or you are there but the truth is a lot of people don’t make that kind of money they think we have.
Some people think we get paid 10 million for acting {laughs} so a lot of times, actors want to live up to false expectations from their fans and that is how they get into trouble.
As far as I am concerned, if you are paid in Nigeria and you want a Gucci bag and you convert your Naira to dollars to go and buy it because Kim Kardashian is carrying it, it doesn’t make sense because she earns dollars.
So for me it is not about being extravagant, everybody loves the good things of life but you have to draw a balance. It is about not truly making that huge amount that actors and actresses make.”
On trading her stardom for a private life, she said:
“We enjoy the stardom and attention but sometimes you just want to walk past unnoticed and just be yourself but I wouldn’t give this up for anything in the world. I love it and appreciate it.”

Expulsion of Nollywood actress , Rahama Sadau logical – Ali Nuhu

Nigerian actor, producer, director and television
personality, Ali Nuhu , popularly known by the media
as “ King of Kannywood” has approved of the recent
ban on actress Rahama Sadau calling it logical, as he
believes she violated the codes and ethics of
Kannywood.
Rahama was banned by MOPPAN , a coalition of
associations that set rules and regulations governing
the conduct of actors and actresses, as well as
production of movies in northern Nigeria , on account
of her featuring in a 4 minute 19 seconds romantic
musical video by based singer, ClassiQ .
In an interview with Daily Trust , Nuhu said
“ I think that the ban is logical. She belongs to
Kannywood, started her career in Kannywood and
has violated the ethics and code of conduct of
Kannywood by holding hands and falling on the
guy ’s back.”
The actor has however advised that the censoring body
in future , needs to take caution before reaching a
decision on matters such as this , noting that the ban
is on the extreme as a lesser punishment would have
sufficed.
“ I don ’t think she should be banned . Maybe a
suspension. There are situations where people
create big things out of small ones . That is why
before deciding to do something, one needs to
think. I would advise that in future when things
like this happen , they deliberate amongst
themselves and maybe call in a few others in the
industry before making it public . People do
things in an organization and are suspended or
given queries. But these organizations won ’t go
to the media to announce it . It was blown out of
proportion, ” Ali explained.

Responding to social media critics who feel the ban
was selective Ali Nuhu said
“ About photographs of me in scenes with
females , those are from Nollywood movies , many
years old , and this code came into light recently ,
so people shouldn ’ t think MOPPAN is being
selective. ”

claimed that the actor was in the habit of allegedly
battering her till she lost her first pregnancy. That

Akeem Balogun (Olasco Films) is threatening my life, despite owing me millions- Actress Yewande Adekoya cries out

Read her story after the cut…
Good day Nigerians. My name is Yewande
Adekoya-Abiodun. I am a happily married
movie producer, screenwriter and actress. I
have been practising since 2002 and i am
presently a bonafide member of Tampan. I
want to beg Nigerians all over the world to
please help me tell Akeem Olatunji Balogun
(Olasco films) to leave my life alone. If
anything bad happens to me, Nigerians,
please hold Akeem Olatunji Balogun
responsible.
He has marketed my movies for about six
years now and i have nothing to show for it
financially. I do not even have a car of my
own. He sold igbodudu 1&2, omo
elemosho1&2, kudi klepto1&2, Emere, Irawo
meji and Kurukuru1,2,3. This man is presently
owing me the sum of 2million naira and he
has refused to pay because he feels no one
can challenge him. He has been owing me
since 2014. When he owes you, you dare not
ask for your money, if you do, he will start
war just like the one he has just started. He
is also not the type that signs a contract due
to his dubious character. He prefers verbal
agreements.
He is very influencial in the yoruba movie
market, so it is almost a waste of time to
report him to anyone there. I know this
because i had earlier reported him to several
marketers who have good relationship with
him, still no result. I called the president of
the yoruba marketers association, he didn’t
pick my calls. I was eventually able to speak
with his assistant who sympathised with me
and then told me that little or nothing could
be done about the matter. Olasco has
humiliated and oppressed me for too long,
and now, i feel it’s time to speak up.
The last business deal i had with him that
really pissed me off was Kurukuru, a three
part movie i wrote and produced while i was
8months pregnant in 2015. He released
kurukuru online and on DVD in nov 2015, and
then claimed we didn’t make any profit from
the 3 releases of the movie despite the huge
success record the movie had. I decided to
keep mute about everything since last year. I
decided to keep mute about everything since
last year, because i do not like to fight
anyone or make noise over anything
whatsoever.
He sent me an embarrassing sum of N300,
000 which he believes should serve as my
payment for Emere, Irawo meji and Kurukuru
part1,2 and 3. I quietly moved on with my life
and faced my work squarely, but Mr Akeem
Balogun will not let me be. He keeps
oppressing and terrorising anyone i choose
to do business with.
He even went as far as influencing movie
marketers and some movie producers to stop
casting me for movie roles. Why? What
exactly did i do to you? What exactly do you
want from me? Mr Akeem Olatunji Balogun
please leave me alone, i refuse to be enslaved
by you, like you enslave some others. You
don’t pay them and you also won’t let them
do business with other people. Maybe it’s
because i refused to date you even after all
these years, that is why you are strongly
determined to destroy me.
I serve a living God Mr Akeem and the God i
serve will never allow darkness overcome
light. Olasco films has refused to pay me my
royalty for the three movies: Emere, Irawo
meji and Kurukuru part1, 2, 3 and i have not
yet taken him to court for that, and he is
here, strongly advocating against me doing
business with other marketers and film
distributors of my choice.
I know you are tough but my God is tougher
than you. Don’t try HIM. I still have the
bounced cheque of 1million naira that you
gave me in 2011. May my God reward you
accordingly. My beautiful fans and fellow
Nigerians all over the world, pls help me tell
this man to leave me alone oooooooooo if he
does not want the wrath of God to descend
on his entire household.
High Regards,
Bukola Ogunrinde

snatchers, but we know how to keep a man to
ourselves.”

able to keep him through that, but men like it
when a lady is clean and of course good in bed. A
Calabar girl is a combination of all.”
On the issue of premarital sex, she agrees it is
essential to know what your boyfriend is working
with before marriage. She said:
“You have to know your package, I am not saying
just go into it anyhow but just test it. You need to
know what you are going into, so you don’t start
cheating on your spouse.”

Selling your body for movie roles is wrong : Ini Edo to young actors

Nollywood actress Ini Edo has
urged budding and aspiring actors in Nigeria to
jettison the idea of selling their bodies to land
lead roles.
The thespian, who was recently appointed the
Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom
State on Tourism, made the call during an
interview with The Nation Online.
Edo, said the importance of hard work cannot be
wished away and that only with commitment and
constant improvement can young actors make it
big in the industry.
“The primary advice I will offer any budding actor
is that selling yourself for roles to a producer to
get ahead does not work in the long run; not as
well as hard work and talent,” she was quoted as
saying.
She added : “Develop your craft and always give
your all in depicting any role you accept to play
whether big or small. That’s what gets you
noticed and that’s what wins awards.”
The diva also disclosed that her stint in
government will not affect her career as an actress
“Since my appointment to serve my state, I have
been receiving calls from producers, and actors
alike to extend their hands of fellowship in
building the Nigerian project.
“Again, I have been invited to play different roles
in the movie industry, so nothing has changed,”
she said.
